The Mountain Pass provides access to high-mountain terrain outside the ski area, with no marked routes or safety services, and is reserved for experienced mountaineers.

It offers a wide range of possibilities over 2 or more days (circular or multi-day itineraries), including ski touring, splitboarding, snowshoeing, or freerando.

This activity requires:

  • Appropriate equipment and strong skills in using avalanche safety gear (transceiver/DVA, shovel, probe), as well as crampons, ice axe, IGN 1:25,000 maps, and navigation tools.
  • The ability to interpret avalanche forecasts, weather reports, and route conditions.

If you are not fully autonomous in winter high-mountain environments, you must be accompanied by a qualified mountain guide.

  • Freeriders hurtling down the slopes of the Tourmalet
